Soft shell crabs fresh from the Chesapeake Bay! A soft shell crab is a blue crab that has outgrown its hard shell and sheds its exterior layer, a cycle called molting. During this short cycle the blue crab begins to create a new, larger shell. This is the time crabbers catch the tasty soft shell crab.
